BRIEF: Commissioners Authorize Staff to Negotiate Contracts With Agencies for Mental Health Tax Funds

The Chronicle - 12/14/2017

Dec. 12--Local agencies are scheduled to receive $465,097 over a two-year period for community-based programs that deal with prevention, intervention and treatment of behavioral health services of residents in the county after the Board of Lewis County Commissioners approved staff to negotiate the contracts at its Monday meeting.

The funds are collected through a one-tenth of 1 percent sales and use tax previously approved by voters.

In 2018, the agencies will receive $255,986, followed by $209,111 in 2019.

The resolution authorized county staff to negotiate the contracts. Another resolution will be submitted before the commissioners to approve each organization and their contract amount.

According to previous reporting by The Chronicle, nine agencies applied for the funds, and only five were selected. Those slated to receive money include Cascade Mental Health, Centralia College, Educational Service District 113, Northwest Pediatrics and Reliable Enterprises.
