Hadad

NEWTOWN - George M. "Jigzy" Hadad, 86, of Newtown, died Friday, December 16, 2016, at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia (Ekelund) Hadad.

Mr. Hadad was born May 6, 1930, in Danbury, a son of Michael and Kerime (Showah) Hadad. He attended Danbury High School and the University of Bridgeport.

He was a retired warehouse manager at the former Fairfield Hills State Hospital of Newtown, retiring in 1985 after 29 years of service.

Upon retirement, he did house painting in the area, for which his family was well known in the greater Danbury area for several generations.

Mr. Hadad was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War, and was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church of Danbury.

A lifelong area resident, he served as a softball (the Opals), baseball and basketball coach with Newtown Parks and Recreation. He enjoyed fishing and archery, was a member of the Danbury Rod and Reel Association, a firefighter at Fairfield Hills Hospital, a member of VFW Post 308 of Newtown and a member of the St. George Men's Club.

Most especially, Mr. Hadad enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and watching their activities.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Besides his wife of 54 years, he leaves his son, David M. Hadad of Southbury; his daughter, Michele P. Hadad of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, Albert Hadad of Danbury, John Hadad of New Fairfield, Nicholas Hadad of Morris and Louis Hadad of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Marion Horton of New Milford, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The Rite of Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 125 Kohanza St., Danbury, with the V. Rev. Fr. George Alberts officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. Arrangements are by Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Danbury.
