Suspended for standing up for Commander-in-Chief

Citrus County Chronicle - 1/19/2017

I would like to give some advice to local military veterans. I have been a member of the VFW (currently Post 4252 in Hernando "where the helicopter is") for about 14 years and other posts for about

44 years.

I was recently suspended from Post 4252 for taking umbrage at several "steady" members at the bar for loudly disparaging the president of the United States.

When the "good soldiers" started "bad mouthing" Obama, I mentioned that he was, in fact, Commander-

in-Chief of the armed forces and good soldiers do not use phrases such as "... somebody should shoot" him.

When I mentioned that the VFW considers themselves a quasi-military organization, they may not like a commander, but not loudly in a public place.

As a veteran myself, there were commanders over me who I did not like, but I did not openly threaten to kill them. When I suggested that their statements bordered on sedition (which carries serious legal charges), I was suspended for 90 days.

I would just like to bring this attitude to any veterans who are contemplating association with this organization, give it serious second thoughts.
